Video Gaming: The Many Genres and Styles
There are many different types of personal computer games available on the market today. Each type of game has different rules and objectives, and players use the hardware that is installed in their personal computers to “play” the game. Games that are played on personal computers differ from computer games that are played on gaming consoles, digital entertainment systems (such as X-Box, Play Station, etc. ), handheld gaming devices, video gaming Consoles, and other similar hardware that run games that run on other platforms.
Personal computer gaming is generally divided into two general categories: arcade style games and first-person shooter games. Arcade style games involve interaction with an interface that is very similar to that of a typical arcade game. Many of these types of games require quick reflexes and constant movement to complete tasks. Many of these games involve playing against opponents or against the computer itself. Arcade style games are generally played on personal computers that have joysticks, trigger buttons, and joysticks to move the character; they also typically have large, high-resolution displays and high quality audio.
First-person shooter video games are played with the camera. Players control their characters with the mouse, often moving around the screen using the keyboard. Using a variety of perspectives, players can see behind, above, and below their characters; they can also interact with the environment using special tools, such as aiming a gun, firing it, and aiming it again. Although first-person shooters traditionally focus on shooting enemies as quickly as possible, many multiplayer video games now allow the player to take a more active role in the game’s storyline by controlling the characters’ mobility. The majority of these types of games are games that involve a gun, although some also involve throwing knives, kicking bags, and boxing gloves. While first-person shooters are usually multiplayer games (meaning that there is more than one player involved in a single game), some focus solely on the player’s position within the environment.
A good example of a fun fact about this ever-expanding genre is the fact that, contrary to popular belief, most console games are actually developed more for the PC rather than the PlayStation or Xbox. This is because, as most console gamers are aware, playing on a gaming console does not provide the maximum quality experience. However, this is not always the case, as some developers have learned how to create titles specifically for the different formats. For example, game mechanics may be very similar between a PC and PlayStation title, but the way in which the game interfaces with gamers will differ greatly, depending on the type of game.
In addition to the aforementioned genres, there are several other subgenres of games that fall under the broader umbrella known as “MMOs,” which include massively multiplayer online games. In general, these are games where one individual plays the role of a character within an online community, ranging from massively populated areas such as World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy to smaller ones such asuggles. Other examples include the free-for-all battles among gamers within these massively populated game spaces, or the ability to play one’s character regardless of whether that character is logged onto a game server or not.
There are many interesting things about video gaming that aren’t immediately apparent. However, the things that gamers don’t realize can actually help them benefit from the incredible variety of game genres and types of platforms available. For instance, a quick look at the history of computer games reveals that many individuals have become addicted to playing games that involve complex, abstract concepts. Gaming may well be the perfect outlet for that addiction, as it takes the mind far away from the rigors of daily life.
