Health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is an “uneven state of health characterized by adequate nutrition and good health practices.” A variety of other definitions have also been employed over the years for different reasons. For some people, healthy health is spiritual health. While other people consider health to be the result of a person’s personality and how they perceive themselves on a personal level. Still, there are those who consider that it is something that can be achieved regardless of culture or circumstance.
With all the societal and personal determinants of health, what remains are the individual determinants. Although some of these have been discussed extensively in the past, most researchers now agree on the fact that some of these are also present and cannot be ignored. Some of these include the following: genetics, environment, geography, demographics, medical practices, nutritional status, and health promotion. The specific determinants of health that can be influenced by other factors include the following: age, habits, history of past illness or injury, gender, living environment, occupational exposures, nutritional status, and life style. While some of these are changes from one generation to another, others such as the aging of the population, changes in the economy, and various social issues continue to shape the health of the population.

Stress has been shown to have negative effects on a person’s physical health, mental health, and emotional well-being. This has been demonstrated through a number of studies including laboratory studies, experimental settings, and participant observation.
