Developing A Healthy Diet To Enhance Health
Health is a condition of physical, emotional and social well being where illness and disease are absent. Over the years different definitions have also been employed for various purposes. One such definition is that which regards the total condition of health as it affects the whole person. This may include the physical, mental, and emotional state. It may also include the extent to which the disorder affects a person’s relations with other people, their dependents and society in general. The definition may also include the capacity for independent living, self-reliance and functioning in an area of basic necessity.
Mental health is related to the capacity for emotional well-being and personal flourishing. Emotional well-being and personal flourishing are considered equal and this leads to an interdependence between them. When a person has a good capacity for emotional well-being and they are also capable of managing their personal life affairs and interacting with others in the society, they have a high probability to survive and enjoy good health. On the other hand, if a person has less than optimal capacity for emotional well-being and they are unable to manage their life affairs and interact with other people in the society, they have a high probability to die earlier than those who have optimal capability for emotional well-being. This highlights the interdependence between these two aspects of health.
Health management is part of health science. This includes assessment, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of all types of diseases that affect human health. This also covers other health sciences like medical genetics, medical informatics, epidemiology, pharmacology, immunology, pathophysiology, psychology and physical sciences. Some of the diseases that fall under the area of health science are cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, allergies, asthma, cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, neurological disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, pregnancy, gender-related diseases, cancer, reproductive health, menopause, infertility and viral infections.
As we know, good health condition refers to healthy body system as well as mental health. Having good physical health means having a good state of energy and a healthy body. Good physical health conditions include having low blood pressure, absence of heart problems, absence of psychiatric problems, absence of drug and alcohol dependencies, absence of major illnesses, etc. On the other hand, having good mental health means having a happy, peaceful, relaxed, well-organized and stress-free personality. People with good mental health conditions also experience lesser emotional stress and they are less likely to develop psychological problems.
Stress-related diseases are also one of the major reasons why people become ill. Anxiety, depression, panic and hot flashes are some of the common symptoms of such diseases. There are many causes that contribute to stress. These causes include biological, psychological and environmental factors.
Studies show that obesity, substance abuse, inactive lifestyles and poor diet are the main risk factors for acquiring a particular illness. Most people in developed countries are unhealthy. They have developed an attitude that all people, including those with good health condition, should be overweight, obese, depressed and anxious. This attitude has caused many illnesses and health conditions such as cardiovascular illnesses, Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, cancer and many more.
